Couch Potatos Rejoice!

Our new couch arrived today, and we now are basking in its immense expansiveness (at least compared to the old one).

Hoses Are Fun

Some photos of Callum exploring his backyard, that actually has grass!

Harriet M. Weider Regional Park

The Huntington Beach City council is in the process of building out a large public park at the end of the street we live on. The first part of the park has been completed and contains a very cool playground with very unique elements all made from recycled materials. Certain parts of it really do look like something from a sci-fi movie.

We took Callum down to the playground after work today and he had a blast. He had so much fun that he pitched the absolute biggest fit we have ever seen from him when we went to leave. Jen literally had to fight to get him in the back seat of the car, he was clawing at the seats trying to get back out of the car to go back and play more. I think we will need a return visit soon.

Callum's 2nd Haircut

Callum has been needing a haircut for a while now. I think the reason he hasn't gotten one is a combination of dread that we used up all our luck on the 1st haircut and a mix of crazy schedules lately.

I am happy to report that the haircut went pretty smoothly. The first issue arose when a young lady came in for her haircut and Callum was straining his neck to get a look at her (he is a player!) and then the hairdresser decided that using the electric clippers to do his neck and sideburns was a good idea. Not sure about that decision lady. He marginally tolerated the clippers, but he was not very happy about it. Luckily he got to drive a yellow car the whole time, otherwise I fear there might have been trouble.

I did notice that the slightly older kids area has it set up so you can play video games while you get your haircut. I am thinking that I will be taking advantage of that next time I need a trim seeing as the place I have been going to for about 3 years abruptly went out of business 2 weeks ago.

Jen's Birthday

Jen turned 30'ish today.

Her parents arrived for a visit just this afternoon, so Jen and I were able to go out for an (expensive) adult dinner to mark the occasion.

Before we went out there was some present unwrapping to be done.

This is Jen's new bike (from yours truly) and some flowers and a stack of envelopes that have arrived in the mail over the last few days.

And here is one of Jen and Callum unwrapping a package from my Mum from Australia.

Jen's New Haircut

Jen got a haircut today. She was being thrifty and went to the Paul Mitchel Hairdressing School which is not too far away and had a student cut her hair.

I will let you be your own judge, but if you ask me, the student did an excellent job and the new style looks awesome on Jen.

Double Bonus! Apparently, the shorter hair looks like a toy to Callum.

Craig's List Rocks!

We posted a bunch of stuff on craigslist.org (no connection, unfortunately) last night, mostly furniture. Jen and I have never posted or bought anything from there before.

Anyway, we posted the items last night, and we just sold our entire glass-topped dining room table and five chairs as well as a side table to a female firefighter who came past the house just a little while ago and piled it all into the back of her "truck" (that's "ute" for the Australian's) and handed over a wad of cash.

Sweet!

Huntington Beach Central Park

While I was attending the workshop up in LA today (and dodging naked suicidal wackos), Jen and Callum spent the afternoon with a picnic in Central Park, which is just around the corner form the new place.

Strange Happenings Too Early In The Morning

So I attended workshop up in LA proper this weekend. Which unfortunately meant driving too and from Friday night, Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday morning, I was driving north on La Brea after just having exited the 10 freeway and when I got to the intersection of Olympic, I was diverted by police officers. I snapped this quick shot of the scene before I turned the corner.

If you click on the image it will open it at full resolution, but you will still need good eyesight.

If you concentrate on the large white building in the center of the photo, the one with a crucifix on top, yes that is a church. You will notice in front of that building on the road is a large yellow crash mat, the kind a stunt man from a movie might use. Now you look at the very top of the crucifix, you will see a blob of some kind. I am here to tell you that that is a full grown naked man sitting up there. He apparently climbed up there early in the morning, and the fire and police officers weren't able to bring him down until late afternoon. All I can think about is, what about the sunburn????
