Bolsa Chica Ecologicial Reserve

Today we decided to start taking better advantage of some the national parks and other nature preserves in and around Orange County. Plus we decided we had had visitors with us for over two weeks between Tara and Rory's visit and also Jen's parents, so we needed to get some exercise.

We decided that we should start out small, so we went to Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve which is just north of Huntington Beach, right by the ocean. There are a few easy walking trails in the reserve and we chose an easy loop trail. It was the first time we had used the baby backpack since I used it to transport Callum through the airports on our Australia trip.






In the background of this one there are 2 brown Pelicans, which will probably raise the eyebrows of the Australian's who read this list, because if they are anything like me, they are used to the brilliant white Pelicans we have in Australia, but as it turns out these ones are actually supposed to be brown - who would have thought!



This one is a little hard to see but there is a stingray swimming along, it is brown and kind of camouflaged. We actually saw a half dozen different rays, but as it turns out, taking a photo of one and have it be actually visible is a little difficult.

Doheny Beach Trip

Today was the last day that Tara and Rory were in town. They wanted to see a "left coast" sunset before they left so we went down to Doheny Beach with a picnic basket in tow.

He Must Be Really Thirsty

On occasion, Jen chooses to give Callum his nightly bath in the kitchen sink. For a reason that neither of us can fathom, Callum has decided the kitchen tap looks mighty tasty.

The Baby Cage

We cannot contain the child any longer so we have purchased a baby play yard. Or as Jen calls it, the Baby Prison.

Of course with the lattice work, it has excellent baby finger holes to help with pulling yourself up for standing.

Pizza Port (Again)

We went to Pizza Port tonight for second Friday night in a row. Last week we went with just Tara (who is visiting if I didn't mention that yet), and this week we went with Tara and Rory (who showed up yesterday) and also my friend Mike from work showed up.

When we arrived, Tara was exceptionally excited that they finally had her favorite beer on tap after her 3rd visit. Here she is expressing her love for a pitcher (jug) of Russian River Brewing Company's Pliny The Elder (a double IPA).

Then she decided she should share some of the love with her husband Rory.

But Rory was more interested in Callum.

The Rar Game

Callum has found his voice in the last couple of weeks or so. We are getting lots of nonsense noises obviously, but he has gotten into the habit of making a "rar" noise that seems to amuse him.

Here is a little example of it.

We Have Standing

So to our surprise this morning, we discovered this waiting for us in the nursery when we woke up.





He wasn't doing this the day before, and then suddenly he was.

Needless to say, we came home tonight from work and dropped the crib mattress down to its lowest level.

We are clearly in trouble now.

OC Fair

This post is a little out of sequence, but we did go to the OC Fair last weekend. Nothing really interesting to report, it was pretty much the same experience as last year except instead of Jen being pregnant we had to work with a stroller in the crowds this year.

Anyway we caught a couple of cool shots of the kid during the afternoon. Here they are for your enjoyment.
