Callum's First Baseball Game

We finally went to an Angels game today. Normally we go a few times each season, but for various reasons this year we haven't made it until now. Today was the last game of the regular season.

It was also Callum's very first game (outside the womb at least). We had really great seats in the first row, right behind home plate to celebrate the occasion.

Friday In New York

Tara and Rory drove up from Philadelphia to hang out with Jen on her last night in New York.

$5 to anyone who can guess what Rory is doing behind Jen to cause her to react this way.

Entirely for Leon's Benefit

A long time ago (sometime in the last 12 months), my sister and brother-in-law sent Callum a present. It was a Wallaby's Rugby Onesie. For the sake of brevity I will assume everyone reading this is at least familiar enough with "Rugby" to know it is a sport. The "Wallabies" is the nickname for the Australian national team.

Anyway, when I was in Australia in July, Leon claimed he had not seen a single photo of Callum wearing the sacred onesie. So here is a photo from this afternoon proving that Callum wears it proudly, often.

New York, New York

Jen is in New York all this week teaching.

As luck would have it, out of all of the buildings in Manhattan, the company she is training is located in World Trade Center building 7 - the new one. The original building #7 was destroyed on 9/11 after debris from the 2 main towers set the building on fire on multiple floors, it eventually collapsed around 5pm.

Here is a photo Jen took out the window of her classroom. The classroom looks down on the site of the two main towers, ie. "ground zero". As you can see the site is under heavy rebuilding construction now.

As if all of this wasn't creepy enough, the training was originally scheduled for a couple weeks ago, which means Jen would have been there on 9/11.

While The Cats Away ...

Jen left for New York this morning, so Callum and I spent the day at the beach. Also, since it was up to me, his Star Wars onesie appeared to be the most appropriate choice for clothing.

9-Month Checkup

Callum had his 9-Month Well-Baby Checkup this morning.

All is good with the lad according to the doctor. He weighed in at 2 ounces shy of 24 pounds (10.7kg) and is 2 feet 5 inches (73.6cm) tall.

The only thing the doctor noted is that his skin has a slight orange tint to it (no it is not fake tanner). It is caused by a condition called Hypercarotinemia, which basically means he has a build up of Carotene in his system - the same stuff that makes Carrots orange.

Apparently store bought baby food contains a lot of it and since his appetite has increased lately, he is eating a lot of it even though we try to give him homemade food as often as possible.

Anyway, she wants us to start transitioning the kid to regular food now anyway so the issue will more than likely go away on its own.

Alison

My sister Shari and her husband Leon welcomed Alison Louise Wregg into the world today at 1:31pm - well, technically it was last night at 8:31pm California time, but in Brisbane, Australia, it was 1:31pm on the 10th.

She was a healthy 3.72kg (8.2lbs) and 50cm (19.6in) long.

Apparently this next generation of Dickson's is a stubborn lot as Alison had to be induced just like Callum was.

Everyone is healthy and well.

Congrats guys!

El Cariso Nature Trail

We decided to check out a short walk in the Cleveland National Forest over the weekend. The El Cariso Nature Trail has self guided signs along the way pointing out various plants and other points of interest along the way (like an abandoned mine shaft). It is at about 2600ft (793m) elevation and didn't have a lot of shade, so it was quite warm.

Some scenery from the trail.

At some point, Callum decided he was sick of looking at the back of Jen's head and decided to get his own perspective.

And here he is cooling off in the back of the car, showing off his standing-up skills.

CHOC Walk

The 3 of us are going to participate in a fund raising walk for the Children's Hospital of Orange County on the 19th of October. Hopefully this will generate some good karma for us in case we need their services in the future.

The walk is 5km (3.1 ml) long and winds through Disneyland and California Adventure (yes, this is how they raise funds in Orange County!).

My company is going to sponsor me, but Jen needs to raise some funds. So if you prefer your children on the healthy side, please consider contributing.

It's super easy, all you have to do is go the following web page and fill in the details (it is a secured page).

https://www.chocforms.org/chocwalk/2008/sponsor.cfm?DA=sponsorForm&ID=57243

Thanks!
