New Office Space

My team at work is moving to a new office as soon as things are set up. I had my first chance to see the space (that was selected while I was on leave) today.

The guy on the left is my boss Kevin and the guy on the right is Dan who is another person I work with.

We have to come up with a layout for all of the workstations, cable it, build it out, put all the equipment in and move everyone in. Who knows how long it will take ...

More Cow Bell ... Sorry, Cube Toy

Some fun photos of Callum in his new red shirt.

This first one is in the running for best Callum photo so far.

A good smile picture.

Cheesy sly grin.

Good full length shot.

Professional Photos

Who are the biggest suckers in the world? That would be Jen and I. We didn't even make it out of the hospital with the kid and we had already signed up for professional photos to be taken of him. And for those who haven't bought these kinds of photos in a while, they cost roughly the same as one of those ridiculously small but surprisingly fuel efficient European cars. Oh, and did I mention we signed up for 3 more sittings. Suckers indeed.

Anyway, the one below is my favorite, but if you click on it you will be able to see all of the shots.

Let us know if you want the hi-res versions or prints.

Cheers

How many 5 year olds can you take in a fight?

With a new child, I felt it was important to find out now so I can train appropriately.

12 Weeks Old Today

Callum is officially 12 Weeks Old Today. My how time flies.

Just over this last weekend we saw him for the first time really want to grab onto something (a toy in his car seat). Babies are born with a grip reflex, so they will grab hold of anything you put in their hands. But this was different, he was actually reaching out and actively grabbing on to the toy. We also noticed him hanging onto a rattle much better on Sunday as well.

On a sad note, I went back to work today. :(

Santa Ana Zoo

We decided to visit the Santa Ana Zoo today. None of us had ever been there, but we must have driven past it thousands of times since we have lived here. It is a small zoo and really pales in comparison to the San Diego Zoo, in fact even the Adelaide Zoo is better, which is saying something. There are very few unkind words I have to say about Adelaide, but the Zoo really is depressing and abysmal. I took Jen there the last time we were in Adelaide and I was pretty embarrassed to say the least. I recall the Melbourne Zoo being quite good though.

Anyway, we were not really expecting Callum to be too engaged, it was more of an excuse to do something outside on a sunny day. He was really well behaved though and genuinely seems to enjoy getting out of the house and seeing new things.

Here is Callum seeing his very first real life Elephant, although the fact that there are people riding it and it has a tiara made of flowers on may have given him the wrong impression:

And here he is seeing his first Australian Emu, just as all Australian kids should, from behind the safety of a big fence. Emus are awkward, ugly animals and not to mention they have a penchant for pecking at shiny items that get near them - including human eyes. All and all, not an animal that deserves much attention.

And here, Jen and Callum have tamed a wild land tortoise and are using it to ride around the Zoo because they are too lazy to walk.

V-Day

We decided that we were not in the market for a romantic (overpriced/crowded) Valentines dinner today - we were attempting to be socially responsible and not ruin the mood for everyone else with a screaming kid. So instead we went out for a late lunch in Laguna Beach. We then went for a walk along Main beach, where Jen took this photo of Callum and I. The lighting is kind of weird (it was sunny, but I am standing in a shadow and we used the flash) so it looks a little fake, almost like I was superimposed in front of the ocean, but I assure you, it is a real photo.
