Day Early Birthday Present
After having brunch this morning, Jen and I couldn't resist getting Callum an early birthday present on the way back to Mum's house.

Colley Reserve
We had lunch at Glenelg today, which is one of the more popular (probably the most popular) beach in Adelaide. We wandered around for a while after lunch and eventually stopped at Colley Reserve which is a huge open grassed area next to the beach. It seemed like a good opportunity to let Callum crawl around with some freedom.

Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary
Today we all went to Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary in the Adelaide hills near the town of Stirling.
The sanctuary was originally started by a guy who got so sick of feral cats in the hills killing all of the native wildlife that he bought a piece of property, and put up a cat proof fence around the whole thing. He then proceeded to kill off the feral cats and make a Daniel Boon style cap out of their skins. So judge him as you will.
Anyway, not withstanding the crazy coot who started the sanctuary, it was worth the visit and gave Callum an opportunity to meet some of Australia's iconic animals.

Microbrews and Rally Cars
Today we went for a drive down the coast south of Adelaide. We had only one reason for heading down that way, and that was to visit the microbrewery in the town of Myponga, which we did do, but we also found a couple of other things to fill in the day.
The Lovely Valley Brewing Company was something we discovered on our last trip to Adelaide. It is a small brewery in a very small town. However, it is a town I personally am very familiar with as it is on the road that used to lead to my grandparent's (on my Dad's side) house at Carickalinga, so I have driven through the town an immeasurable number of times.
The brewery is still expanding and seems to be doing well. Their range of beverages has expanded since we were there last, and we proceeded to taste quite a few. We bought 2 cases of beers, 1 for immediate consumption and one for Callum's party next Sunday.
While in Myponga we saw a sign that said that the cars involved in the Adelaide Classic Car Rally would be at Yankalilla Oval today. The rally is an annual event that sees cars from various years race through the hills of Adelaide. The cars range from latest model Ferrari's, through to 1970's muscle cars, to really early model Porsches etc. So we decided to drive a little further south to the town of Yankalilla, also on the road to Carickalinga. We hung out for a little while and saw probably close to 100 cars come through the rest stop where the drivers got out and talked to the locals. It was all very casual as today was a touring stage of the rally (as opposed to a timed stage where how fast they go actually counts).
On the way back to Adelaide we stopped for a late lunch at the Victory Hotel, which is perched on a hill overlooking the far southern beaches of Adelaide - very nice spot indeed. However, I for some reason decided it was so nice, I didn't take a single picture. Hard to believe, I know.
Jen managed to get a couple of odd looks at the Victory, as she was coincidentally wearing a shirt that had the word "Victory" across the front in large letters - it is the pink/brown one in the photo above. Her shirt is actually from the Victory Brewing Company that she visited in Pennsylvania on her trip back in July.

The Mall's Balls
For those who are not familiar with the centre of Adelaide, the main shopping area is known as Rundle Mall, which is actually a road that is blocked off to cars with shops down both sides.
One of the landmarks in the Mall is a sculpture of two large super shiny silver balls (probably 6 feet across, each) sitting one on top of the other. They have been there since the '70s. This of course has lead to the classic Adelaide-only joke of "What is long and straight and has 2 balls?" - the punchline writes itself really.
Anyway, Callum encountered the "balls" today.
